Dr. Chodang Kim Ki-woon, the founder of this university, is a ‘living history’ who personally practiced the giving-back of corporate profits to society. Sir Chodang believed that educational work was the most meaningful work that could be done by the human after being born as a human being and always thought that educating the local talented to be great people would be the best way to repay the local communities of Muan and Mokpo that gave birth to and nurtured himself and his company.

Consequently, Sir Chodang established Chodang University so as to train the talented people who would be able to lead the upcoming globalization and information-oriented society with their own correct values, international sense, professional skills and knowledge, etc. This way, Chodang University was founded with the heart of pureness, of preparation for the future, and of gratitude to the country and local communities, and following such a noble founding spirit of the founder, Chodang University will continue to develop into the truly prestigious private academy.

Chairman Kim Ki-woon, who watched the educational reality of Muan where the entrance and employment rates of women were relatively low a long time ago, truly felt that the establishment of Baekje Girls' Commercial High School would be the most important investment in the local community, so established Chodang Academy on April 15, 1979 to relieve the cares and worries of parents, experiencing financial difficulties, in the rural area of Muan as well as to resolve the women's education problem and then, purchased 100,000 pyeong of a mountain at 419 Seongnam-ri, Muan-eup, Muan-gun, as the land to be used as a school site.

Although founded to provide the place of vocational education for women, Baekje Girls' Commercial High School established 2 humanities class in 1999 by accepting the public opinion of local residents who wished for the ordinary and new courses, then changed its school name to Baekje High School in the following year.

With the change of the times, the repulsion for coeducation has disappeared and the college entrance rate after graduating from high school has increased; considering the changed reality, they are endeavoring to accept the requests of the local communities and grow together with them.
